
How to motivate a creative department when the good briefs dry up

Wunderman UK had acquired a stack of new creative teams, poached from some of the top agencies in the country – including BBDO, DDB, M&C Saatchi and RKCR Y&R. Their motive: to reposition the agency as a creative hot shop.
The problem was, Wunderman’s clients had appointed the agency based on its data capabilities, not its creative. The appetite for great ideas just wasn’t there. And morale amongst some of our brightest sparks started to dip.
We needed a solution that was going to reinvigorate the creative department, and show our clients the quality of our in house creative offering – so that we could retain our talent, and get them the briefs they deserved.
So, we launched Music by design. An initiative where we develop branding for up-and-coming musical artists in return for an original track, composed especially for Wunderman, that we can use free on any project we do for paying clients.
